What is CBD?
Cannabidiol (CBD), is a compound found naturally in the Cannabis plant. This compound, or cannabinoid, is extracted from the plant and is commonly used towards medical treatments and added in cosmetic applications. It is known for its anti-inflammatory, regenerative and anti-aging properties. CBD has a profound role to play in taking care of the skin; as a first line of defense skin is exposed to the elements which can lead to dullness, dryness, itching and aging. (1, 6)
How does 100% organic CBD interact with the skin?
Our skin contains cannabinoid receptors within cells that are distributed throughout the outermost layer of skin which act as protective barriers. These cells are located within our skin glands that produce oil that help protect the skin and allow us to feel temperature and texture. When applied on the skin, CBD interacts with these receptors which could result in enhanced integrity of the skin.
What are the general benefits of 100% organic CBD in skincare?
CBD can help the skin in several ways, such as reducing skin inflammation, which can cause redness.
The following beneficial effects are also recognized when CBD is applied:
• CBD exerts potent antioxidant properties. It reduces free radicals in the skin that can lead to damage. This results in an overall improvement in the skin’s look and quality. (1, 2)
• CBD also promotes natural skin moisturization for sustained softness and protection against dryness. (3)
• CBD promotes the reduction of moisture evaporation in the skin, thus retaining hydration in the outer layers. (4)
• CBD encourages natural skin protection and conditioning. It can help to reduce the itchy, flaky and reddened skin. (8)
Will using products with 100% organic CBD make me feel “high”?
CBD is a non-psychoactive cannabinoid, which means that it does not cause psychoactive effects or “high” feelings. The psychoactive sensations associated with cannabis use are attributed to another cannabinoid, tetrahydrocannabinol, commonly referred to by the acronym THC. (7)
How will 100% organic CBD affect my skin if I have acne prone skin?
Oil can mix with dead skin cells, dirt or other pollutants and trap debris into the pores, which can lead to breakouts. Research suggests that CBD may help regulate oil production within our skin. CBD also provides anti-inflammatory effects, which helps manage the redness and irritation commonly associated with acne-prone skin. (8)
How will 100% organic CBD affect my skin if I have dry, flaky skin?
When CBD is applied onto dry, flaky skin, studies have shown that its conditioning and protective properties help reduce itching, scaling, swelling, and redness. (10)
How does 100% organic CBD affect wrinkles and aging?
CBD has many anti-aging properties including anti-inflammatory, antioxidizing, and moisturizing effects that can reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines. CBD also reduces free radicals in the skin and provides anti-inflammatory effects that help to ultimately prevent photo-aging of the skin. (9)
Are there any allergies or side effects commonly associated with topical use of 100% organic CBD?
There are currently no reported allergic reactions with CBD.
Can I use this product with my current skincare routine?
